Don’t Disturb My Sleep
I really hate when something disturb my sleep. Like this morning, I just woke with bad mood because my neighbour play the damn Diana Krall’s music so loud. I like jazz music, but it was so irrittatting to hear it in the sleeping time. Especially I just go to bed this morning around 5 am. Stupid Diana Krall … I really really hate any disturbance to my sleeping time. Not only loud music like this morning, any noisy thing in the morning could make me awake….yeah maybe I’m to selfish but I don’t want my sleep terminate because things like people making conversation in front of my room with damn loud voice, or the crazy maid sings dangdut in the morning, or somebody turn the TV on with loud volume. Maybe I must put the large sign at my doorabout : KEEP IT SILENT, STUPID!!!
Soft Focus - The Power of GIMP
Malam ini saya baru belajar tentang bagaimana membuat foto jadi punya efek “soft focus”. Awalnya saya sering lihat foto-foto di Fotografer.net, banyak yang sudah dioleh dengan software semacam Photoshop. Tadi iseng-iseng browsing dan saya dapat petunjuk yang luar biasa berguna di sini. Petunjuk tersebut dibuat untuk Photoshop, tapi ternyata bisa juga diimplementasikan di GIMP (Photoshop-nya Linux). Langsung cari foto yang bisa dijadikan objek latihan. Ada foto Pak Imam (rekan di kantor) dari liputan makan-makan Jumat lalu. Berikut fotonya :

Foto kiri adalah foto aslinya sementara foto di sebelah kanan adalah hasil olahan di GIMP. Saya cukup puas belajar teori baru ini. Hasil fotonya memang terasa lebih “soft“. Dipikir-pikir cara ini bagus juga dipakai untuk memperhalus wajah modelnya. Bahasa kerennya mengolah “skin tone” Dari hasil tes tadi saya rangkum langkahnya seperti berikut ini :
- Sebelum membuat efek soft focus, kita harus pastikan Brightness dan Contrast foto sudah diatur dengan benar (sesuai selera tentunya).
- Buat duplikat dari Layer utama, sebut layer ini “duplikat”.
- Klik pada layer “duplikat”, lalu ubah modenya dari ‘Normal” menjadi ‘Screen’.
- Masih pada layer “duplikat”, beri filter Gaussian Blur. Di GIMP saya pakai Blur Method-nya IIR dan saya set Blur Radius-nya 50.
- Setelah diberi efek blur, atur Opacity layer “duplikat” tersebut untuk mengatur terang gelapnya foto.
- Untuk lebih menggelapkan foto, buat duplikat dari layer “duplikat”. Sebut layer ini “duplikat2″.
- Klik pada layer “duplikat2″ dan ubah modenya jadi “Multiply”. Atur juga Opacity-nya sampai mencapai kombinasi yang pas.
- Sampai tahap ini proses pembuatan efek “Soft Focus” sudah selesai. Tapi bisa saja ditambahkan layer lain di atas layer yang sudah ada untuk menambah efek lain. Pada contoh foto di atas tadi saya tambahkan layer warna putih untuk mengatur Saturasi warna.
Kurang lebih seperti itu….sekadar sharing dari newbie di dunia olah digital…masih modal Ubuntu Linux dan GIMP, belum pakai Apple Macintosh

Lunch With Eserv
Yesterday, I joined lunch at Everfresh restaurant. The lunch invitation came from Laurence who will leave Eservglobal Indonesia. She held the lunch as the farewell party, almost all Eservglobal’s employee (in Jakarta office of course) joined the lunch….who don’t likes free food
Everfresh restaurant is a seafood restaurant located at Pejompongan street, nearby Karet Bivak cemetery (in the Tanah Abang district area). It’s only 3 km approximately from our office at Mega Kuningan. We went to the place around 11.45 AM. As usual when there is a crowd, I bring the camera As photographer with no model yet, it quite be nice to have moment like this. At least I can release the shutter in order to prevent my EOS 1000D become dusty in the bag 
Everfresh restaurant sell the fresh seafood, crabs, shrimps, a lot of fish varieties, eel, shellfish, you can also eat sushi and sashimi as well. I read the review in the Internet about Everfresh, we can buy the fresh fish. So after full eat the seafood, we can buy some raw fish and cook it at the home. The taste of the food at Everfresh is quite good, I can’t say it delicious. But the price is really reasonable. I couldn’t enjoy the lunch 100% because I prefered to take photos. But I always happy to take photograph of my coleagues. After the lunch, we gave Laurence a souvenir. We bought a digital photo frame with memory card inside, memory card filled by photos of everybody in the Eservglobal Indonesia. Most of the photos taken by me weeks ago. We hope it can be sweet memory for Laurence since she will leave Indonesia by the end of this month.
The above photo taken in front of Everfresh restaurant just before we left. When I was taking that photo, somebody had been left to the office (I think Lutfi and Dwi missed this shoot). To take the group photo like that, it is necessary to set the aperture as small as possible (with respect to the light meter as well). The small aperture will provide us the wide depth of field which can keep everybody in focus. I took that photo with aperature set to f/13…quiet small to let everybody’s face in focus. I didn’t need the external flash since the sun shone very bright that afternoon.
Again…using the 50mm fixed lens gave me another experience. Using the 50mm lens, pushed me to move back some meters in order to put everybody in the frame. That photo captured from the distance almost 3 meters away from the crowd. Thanks God we were on the yard, let me moving back far enough. I was reclining at the cars parked in the yard when I took that photo….no more space for me to retreat. The result is like that, Pak Imam (the man in left frame) couldn’t enter the frame 100%; also Sandro in the right frame. Sorry guys for the inconvienent. I need to change our photo spot to let you all in the frame. Or maybe I need to change the 50mm lens with the wider one…or buy Tokina ultrawide lens Actually I brought the 18-55mm lens also, but I was too lazy to change the lens. Nevertheless I still love 50mm lens. The sharpness of 50mm lens makes me love it more and more. I don’t know how it will be after I bought the other lens. But compared to the kit lens 18-55mm, I choose 50mm definitely.
Blogging Dalam Kegelapan
Sudah jam 2 lewat saya masih belum bisa memejamkan mata. Ini gara-gara mati lampu dari tadi selepas pukul 1 dini hari. Bukan cuma mati lampu lokal karena listrik lokal kelebihan beban, tapi mati lampu di seluruh kompleks. Mati lampu membuat kamar jadi panas karena tentu AC tidak berfungsi. Yang lebih menyiksa bukan panasnya suhu kamar, tapi serbuan nyamuk yang ikut sibuk di kegelapan ini. Aneh mengapa mendadak jadi banyak nyamuk…dari tadi sebelum mati lampu rasanya tidak ada nyamuk di dalam kamar. Apa mungkin nyamuk-nyamuk ini masuk saat saya tadi keluar kamar memastikan padamnya listrik bukan gangguan lokal? Ah tapi sebelum saya keluar kamar pun nyamuk sudah bermunculan. Tangan & kaki sudah gatal kena gigitan nyamuk. Mata masih belum juga ngantuk.
Wahai PLN kenapa tidak tunggu saya tidur baru lakukan pemadaman listrik 
at least saya sudah terlelap jadi tidak peduli dengan AC mati & nyamuk-nyamuk ini. Harga listrik yang relatif murah plus monopoli penjualan listrik, membuat masyarakat tak bisa komplain. PLN pun mungkin akan berujar : bayar murah kok mau enak, harga murah dilarang komplain 
Sepi senyap sekarang. Suara motor di jalan raya bisa terdengar, kucing ribut, anjing tetangga yg berisik pun ikut terdengar. Tapi yang paling mendominasi adalah suara keypad ponsel saya Ternyata keras juga bunyi keypad Nokia E51 di tengah keheningan ini.
Ah alamat bangun kesiangan kalau begini ceritanya. Hmm iseng ngeblog dulu lewat GPRSnya Telkomsel, daripada bengong ga bisa tidur.
Nikahan Buchari
Minggu sore kemarin saya pergi ke acara resepsi pernikahan rekan saya Buchari Muslim. Buchari adalah rekan satu kantor ketika sama-sama masih bekerja di PT Fujitsu Indonesia. Acaranya diadakan di gedung BKKBN di dekat bandara Halim Perdanakusuma. Resepsi dimulai jam 7 malam. Saya berangkat bersama teman-teman Fujitsu lain. Tiba di tempat acara, tamu-tamu sudah berdatangan dan cukup sesak memenui auditorium tersebut.
Berangkat ke acara tersebut saya juga bawa kamera. Niat motret teman-teman dan tentu motret Buchari dengan pakaian adatnya Ternyata fotografer resmi acara nikahan Buchari tidak hanya 1 orang saja. Seperti yang saya cerita di tulisan saya yang lalu, kali ini saya malah tidak sempat minta ijin motret kepada fotografer resmi acara tersebut. Sang fotografer begitu sibuknya memotret, tamu undangan dan keluarga yang perlu difoto demikian banyaknya. Ya sudah masa nunggu ijin terus-terusan sambil ga motret-motret, tetap ikuti etika saya motret Buchari dari jauh saja - tanpa lampu flash tentunya.
Cahaya di panggung cukup terang, jadi tanpa flash pun saya masih bisa mengambil foto pengantinnya. Cukup sulit memotret kedua mempelai sendiri karena tamu undangan yang naik ke panggung ingin bersalaman tidak kunjung habis. Beruntung saya bisa memotret Buchari & Runi berdua saja saat rehat sejenak, saat tidak ada tamu yang naik ke panggung untuk bersalaman. Terlihat sekali Buchari kelelahan (atau mungkin kepanasan) terus-menerus menerima ucapan selamat dari para tamu. Tapi sepanjang acara saya lihat raut muka Buchari ceria terus 
Foto di samping ini saya ambil saat menunggu giliran difoto. Pembawa acara sibuk memanggil rekan-rekan dan keluarga untuk berfoto bersama pengantin. Salah satu grupnya yang dipanggil foto adalah rekan-rekan Buchari di Fujitsu. Rekan-rekan saya pun bergegas bergerak mendekati panggung, demikin juga dengan saya. Lah padahal saya kan bukan orang Fujitsu lagi; kok pede amat ikutan maju? Ah cuek deh ikut foto grupnya Fujitsu
Ada banyak macam hidangan yang disajikan di acara resepsi, tapi semalam saya hanya makan satu menu saja : mie yogya. Begitu sudah pegang kamera saya jadi malas makan. Sebenarnya bukan malas makan, tapi saya bingung mau taruh kamera di mana. Biasanya saya tinggal menyandang DSLR di bahu, tapi dengan flash eksternal terpasang saya kesulitan menyandang kamera. Bobot flash eksternal membuat kamera selalu “ambruk” ke depan. Halah malu-maluin ya…perlu belajar cara menyandang kamera di bahu dengan flash terpasang . Hmm…atau mungkin kameranya perlu dipasangi battery grip untuk menambah bobot dan stabilitas body kamera Daripada bolak-balik menaruh kamera ke dalam tas, ya sudah saya pegang saja terus kameranya. Ga perlu makan yang penting bisa ambil foto teman-teman yang lain. Foto-foto lainnya dari acara resepsi kemarin saya upload di Flickr.

Belajar Tensis Lagi
Dari dulu saya tidak pernah mengambil kursus bahasa Inggris. Saya kenal bahasa Inggris hanya di sekolah, sejak SMP saya dapat pelajaran bahasa Inggris. Salah satu pelajaran yang tidak saya suka…bingung ga ngerti. Meskipun nilai pelajaran bahasa Inggris saya bagus, paling tidak 8, kemampuan bahasa Inggris saya benar-benar pas-pasan. Jangankan untuk bercakap-cakap dalam bahasa Inggris, menulis dalam bahasa Inggris pun tidak bisa. Benar-benar nilai yang tidak realistis, hanya sebatas saya mampu mengerjakan soal ulangan bahasa Inggris.
Menginjak bangku kuliah saya terkondisikan mengerti bahasa Inggris lebih jauh lagi. Mau tidak mau saya harus melatih kemampuan membaca teks bahasa Inggris karena buku-buku kuliah hampir semuanya dalam bahasa Inggris. Buku kuliah teknik elektro dalam bahasa Indonesia malah sulit dipahami karena keterbatasan penerjemahan. Ya sudah mau tidak mau saya harus belajar artikel bahasa Inggris. Buku teknik yang ditulis dalam bahasa Inggris menurut saya lebih mudah untuk dipahami. Jangan bandingkan dengan koran berbahasa Inggris seperti The Jakarta Post, rumit…pusing saya baca koran berbahasa Inggris Saya juga pernah beli novel Sherlock Holmes dalam bahasa Inggris, sampai sekarang saya hanya baca 1 bab saja….selebihnya buku novel itu jadi tatakan harddisk PC saya Iseng saja beli novel luar negri karena tertarik dengan kualitas kertasnya yang super ringan, bukunya ringan sekali.
Waktu wawancara kerja pertama kali di Jakarta Agustus 2006 lalu, saya masih ingat mantan bos saya dulu bilang : kamu harus meningkatkan kemampuan bahasa Inggrismu Ya pertama kali interview ditanya dalam bahasa Inggris, saya 100% gagap. Untungnya interview pertama itu sebagian besar dilakukan dalam Bahasa Indonesia. Hanya 1 sesi saja mantan bos saya itu menguji kemampuan bahasa Inggris saya. Jelek bahasa Inggrisnya pun bisa tembus diterima kerja. Interview berikutnya sekitar April 2007 hampir separuhnya dilakukan dalam bahasa Inggris. Halah….untung saya sudah lebih pede bercakap-cakap dalam bahasa Inggris. Kuncinya cuma pede saja…modal nekat, kalimat berantakan tak masalah, yang penting keyword-nya sudah bisa ditangkap oleh lawan bicara Saat interview di Fujitsu, semua yang mewawancarai saya adalah orang Indonesia. Interview terakhir di kantor saya sekarang dilakukan dalam bahasa Inggris semua. Bos saya orang Perancis, mau tidak mau harus ngomong dalam bahasa Inggris…lah masa mau ngomong bahasa Perancis Belakangan saya makin sering menggunakan bahasa Inggris, yang paling sering dipakai adalah bahasa Inggris tulisan…menulis email terutama. Makin banyak pula kesempatan bercakap-cakap dalam bahasa Inggris karena tidak sedikit rekan kantor yang berkebangsaan asing. Sudah fasih berbahasa Inggris? Ya belum sih…karena terpaksa saja jadi bisa.
Beberapa kali saya juga mencoba menulis postingan di blog dalam bahasa Inggris….ya itung-itung latihan menulis lah. Bukan gaya-gayaan sok kebarat-baratan. Beberapa hari yang lalu teman saya, Jennifer, sempat mengoreksi beberapa kesalahan dalam postingan yang saya buat dalam bahasa Inggris. Banyak untungnya punya teman yang fasih beberapa bahasa sekaligus, seperti kamus online saja Kalau lihat kamus sudah tidak menemukan clue, tinggal tanya Jennifer via Yahoo Messenger (kalau ybs. online juga tentunya). Kesalahan yang terbanyak adalah soal tenses. Ya salah satu kelemahan saya dalam bahasa Inggris adalah soal Tenses. Rasa-rasanya belajar Tenses secara langsung dengan Jennifer lebih bisa dipahami daripada beberapa tahun dapat pelajaran bahasa Inggris di sekolah. Saya jadi lebih paham bedanya penggunaan was/were, has/have, verbs 3. Dari obrolan panjang lebar saya diberi 4 rumus dewa soal Tenses, berikut kutipan hasil chat dengan Jennifer :

Ah benar-benar menyenangkan belajar seperti ini, langsung mengena rasanya…lebih ngeh saya memahaminya. Mungkin karena hal-hal semacam itu kerap kali saya gunakan saat menulis dalam bahasa Inggris. Belajar sesuatu yang memang kita butuhkan rasanya lebih cepat dipahami daripada sekadar belajar sesuatu karena kewajiban. Buktinya soal Tenses itu kan sebenarnya kan sudah pernah saya dapat di bangku SMP/SMA, tapi mengapa saya masih kesulitan menggunakannya? Jawabannya adalah karena dulu saya belajar sekadar memenuhi kewajiban, tidak untuk diterapkan/digunakan sehari-hari. Seiring sejalan saya merasa perlu tahu dan paham soal Tenses. Tadinya saya pikir cukup untuk tahu banyak vocabulary (kosa kata Inggris) tapi ternyata sehari-hari dalam penulisan email misalnya, Tenses penting juga diperhatikan.
Beberapa minggu lalu saya sempat dapat hasil fotokopi ‘Effective Guide to “O” Level English‘ (seperti Anda lihat di foto). Buku yang bagus juga sebagai sumber referensi saya mengulang materi soal Tenses dalam Bahasa Inggris. Waktunya belajar sungguh-sungguh lagi soal Tenses dan penggunaannya. Paling tidak membuat saya menulis lebih baik lagi, syukur-syukur kalau bisa menggunakannya secara tepat dalam percakapan. Kemarin saya sudah mulai baca buku itu, bab 1-nya ternyata berisi soal Tenses…tepat seperti apa yang ingin saya pelajari Selain Tenses, saya juga sepertinya perlu menambah lagi kosa kata irregullar verbs…kadang bingung menentukan bentuk lampau dari kata kerja tertentu. Yang lebih sulit dilatih sebenarnya bukan soal Tenses, yang lebih sulit dilatih adalah kemampuan percakapan dalam bahasa Inggris (conversation). Kadang saya masih sering terbalik-balik menggunakan “she” untuk menyebut laki-laki dan malah menyebut “he” untuk perempuan Tahu tapi sulit ngomongnya; otak & lidah gak sinkron
Ledakan di Ritz Carlton
Beberapa saat setelah bangun tidur tadi sekitar jam 8, saya terima SMS dari bos saya :
It looks like there was a bomb very close to the office. Better everybody works from home today for the one who can.
Langsung saya nyalakan TV dan mencari Metro TV. Saat itu Metro TV masih menyiarkan Headline News, tidak lama kemudian ada Breaking News yang memberitakan ledakan di hotel Ritz Carton. Halah halah….bom lagi?
Di samping ini foto yang saya terima dari rekan saya Deny yang berada di dekat lokasi kejadian. Kantor saya di Plasa Mutiara letaknya persis di depan hotel Ritz Carlton. Deny tadi pagi sudah datang di kantor saat kejadian…hmm karyawan yang rajin padahal jam kantor baru mulai jam 9 pagi Deny yang segera keluar kantor, kasihan juga dia karena tidak bisa pulang. Motornya diparkir di parkiran gedung dan parkiran gedung adalah salah satu titik yang mengalami ledakan. Katanya tidak ada orang yang diperbolehkan mendekat. Foto di atas adalah foto gedung Ritz Carlton (halaman depan restoran Airlangga). Terlihat kaca-kaca sudah pecah berantakan.
Dari laporan pandangan mata Deny, katanya ada 2 titik terjadinya ledakan dan mengalami kerusakan parah. Satu di hotel Ritz Carton (di lokasi restoran Airlangga), dan satu lagi di hotel JW Marriot (sebelah gedung kantor saya). Belum jelas apa penyebab ledakan ini. Semua rekan kantor saya diminta tidak datang ke kantor. Hanya Deny yang masih berada di dekat lokasi karena tidak bisa pulang Naik taksi aja deh Mas Deny….
Lenovo Idepad Y450 In A Glance
Yesterday I just received this notebook, Lenovo Ideapad Y450. It belongs to my friend’s office. He asked me to prepare this notebook before being used by his employee. It was my pleasure to testing this gadget for the first time, start from opened the box and so on Quiet surprise when see the spesification listed on the box, I think it was very powerfull notebook. For the price around 8 million rupiahs, I think Ideapad Y450 can compete with other brand….at least in my mind I’ll choose this one for that price. With the elegant design and powerfull engine it serves the user with great computing and entertainment environment. Before touch the system, I prepare the photo session for this notebook. Trying how difficult the product photography Only used Speedlite 430EX II and its diffuser, I shot and the result are like you see in this post.
Lenovo Ideapad Y450 has Centrino Duo processor, this type has 2.2 GHz Core™2 Duo Processor T6600 (with front size bus as big as 800MHz, and 2MB L2 Cache). Those CPU feel more fast with 2GB DDR3 memory. Very powerfull desktop replacement for standar office usage. For storage, Ideapad Y450 has large space 320GB hard drive installed. For connectivity reason, we can find many interfaces. Gigabit Ethernet for local area network connectivity (goodbye 10/100Mbps Ethernet), Wifi, Bluetooth, and plus the old type Infrared port. Very complete connectivity solutions.
I always like the keyboard on Lenovo’s keyboard. The same with its predecessor, IBM Thinkpad, Lenovo has excellent keyboard. I like to type using that kind of notebook. The buttons are soft and easy to press. The touchpad also good. Although almost all the body made by glossy material, Lenovo make the touchpad with textured material. I like the textured material, make me easy to handle the cursor. The other brand like Compaq, I’ve tested it before, has the touchpad with same material with the body. It’s not easy to use the mouse made with glossy material. Ideapad Y450 has two major colors, white and brownish black with a red striped at the edge of lid. The cover of the screen (back of the lid) has textured coating, very elegant. Its screen has 14.1 inch WXGA. On the top of the screen we can found 1 tiny 1.3 Megapixels webcam.
This machine also has dual layer DVD writer. There are also 3 USB 2.0 ports, 1 E-sata/ USB combo, and 34mm Express Card slot. There is also one 6-in-1 Multi-card Reader slot that support several types of multimedia card. I like the idea to put the dummy card to secure the multimedia slot, to open it just press the dummy card to open the slot. Above the keyboard, there are several shortcut button, not ordinary button but touch-sensitive slide bar. If we put Windows as operating system, Lenovo provide the software to configure those slide bar. I don’t test this feature yet, but see it on Lenovo website I see the slide bar will produce shortcut with animation effect just like dock bar in Macintosh operating system. Some part of the body will illuminate when the computer turned on. For example, the Ideapad logo in the corner (below the Intel logo) illuminate when the computer turned on.
For entertainment purpose, Ideapad Y450 has nice stereo speaker. By default, I can hear the nice welcome sound when I just powered the notebook up. I think there is a parameter in the BIOS to choose whether we want to turn on this welcome sound or not. Just a quick guess. You can see the logo Dolby sound system logo in the left corner, followed by “Home Theater” text. According to Lenovo website, this notebook designed for family entertainment, that’s why Lenovo put the nice speaker system in. The speakers (2 Watt each) are located near the screen hinges.
I don’t know how’s the battery performance. As far as I know, Lenovo has good temperature control which makes the bottom of the notebook cool enough although it works for several hours. Ideapad packed with separate battery, it wasn’t installed yet. But it is easy to installed the battery pack. After put the battery in correct position don’t forget to set the battery lock to “Locked” position to safe the battery position. With the battery, Ideapad Y450 will be 2.1kg in weight…quite heavy for me.
If I want to buy notebook, I’ll pass this beautifull notebook because of its white body….it will be dirty fast White body has elegent look but it need more clean handling unless your white keyboard will turn to yellow soon In the packaging, Lenovo only provide Windows Vista driver only. Some of the drivers work on Windows XP too. Some part need Windows XP spesific driver, VGA card is one of them. I can download the driver from Lenovo official website.
Same like other new notebook, by default Lenovo Ideapad set the harddrive in SATA AHCI mode. I’ve experienced this issue some time ago, I wrote it here. So when I tried to install Windows XP, I got the blue screen when installation begin. But I was happy to know that on BIOS there is a menu to turn off SATA mode and switch to SATA Compatibility (IDE mode). Windows XP installation process ran well after set that to IDE mode.
Overall in my opinion, this is the best choice for buyer who has 8 millions budget.
Hunting With Professional Photo
Sunday morning I went to Kota Tua Jakarta to join photo hunting. Hunting held by Professional Photo studio July 13, 2009. Kota Tua is a famous location in Jakarta for photographic activities. Kota Tua means “old city”, it’s a conservation district in Jakarta that has many colonial building, heritage from Dutch when conquered Indonesia over 350 years. Leave my home at 6 am and arrived there 20 minutes later. In Sunday morning, Kota Tua area was so busy, many people went there to many purpose. Some of them did sport activity (soccer, badminton, cycling, etc), the others just walking around, and some others like me taken photos.
The centre of those activities is Fatahillah Museum’s front yard. Fatahillah Museum was Hunting finished around 9 am since the sun start shined too bright. I only used 50mm lens during photo hunting. Since I only used 50mm lens, I must chose the unique object that fit to the frame It was my first time going to Kota Tua to take pictures. I’ve heard (and read) about Kota Tua regarding the photographic activities. My friend Fendi also recommend me to go there. Not like him who go hunting regulary, I never go photo hunting at Jakarta. Too lazy to go hunting The only photo hunting that I did (before today) was last December at Singapore. It was the first time I used DSLR camera just after bought it at Sim Lim mall Singapore. I’ve upload the rest of the photos at Flickr. Hmm, I don’t know yet how to integrate my album at Flickr with my blog I should find it out immediately, because it’s very stupid to upload the photo twice….on at Flickr and also at Picasa as well. Until now I only know how to put the picture in blog from Picasa, but I like Flickr as well. Ah forget one other place : Facebook. I’ve also put some of my photo at Facebook, never change the wall post or wall status but only upload some photo there. Not like many people I know that very addict to change wall post (status) Ups….out of topic, just want to tell you about my photo hunting activity not to share my opinion about Facebook
Shadowless Photograph
Have a lot of time today, I tried to shoot my pocket camera Nikon Coolpix L14. One year old camera which has been accompanying me when travel to a lot of places. I bought this camera last year (February 16th, 2008). It always hangs on my belt every time I go, even when I go to the office.
To shoot my camera I’ve no mini studio yet. I just want to explore my external flash, Canon Speedlite 430EX. So I prepare the environment before shooting. I just used a sheet of white paper. It was laid on the a pile of books closed to the wall. Some part of that paper reclined to the wall. Placing my Coolpix in certain angle and shoot it with my EOS 1000D with Speedlite 400EX II too. I used Lambency flash diffuser as well. I arranged the Coolpix in such position so that only white floor & background seen. Using the external flash with diffuser, I can get the minimum shadow below/beside/behind the object. Maybe my next experiment will using the other light source on both sides of the object. It will minimize the shadow much more. I don’t know why the result of background is not white enough, a little bit grey I think. Some possibilities there : the paper is not 100% white, my diffuser spread the light with some color effect, I used incorrect white balance, the room light gives those color effect, or maybe my picture style was not correct.
Overall, I’m satisfied with the result. It makes me know better about the importance of lighting in photography. I can get a shadowless photograph with correct lighting. No matter what kind of light sources we used, the angle of the incoming light should be in perfect ways to achieve best result. How about my picture on that picture? Ah it’s just a simple touch using GIMP (Photoshop-like software in Linux). I crop the LCD part of the Coolpix picture and put my picture as a layer behind the main layer.
